ULTRASOUND

Ultrasound is a diagnostic imaging tool which uses high frequency sound waves to create an image of the body.

The sound waves are emitted and received by a transducer placed upon the skin, a clear gel used between the skin and transducer to assist sound transmission.

Ultrasound is commonly used in obstetrics and gynaecology, assessing muscles and tendons, varicose veins, identifying blood clots, and in investigation of the abdominal organs.

  • General ultrasound
  • Breast ultrasound
  • Obstetric ultrasound
  • Musculoskeletal ultrasound
  • Vascular ultrasound
  • Ultrasound-guided interventional procedures

Depending on the area of the body being scanned, you may be required to change into a gown. You will then be escorted into the ultrasound examination room and positioned accordingly for your scan.
Ultrasound gel will be applied to the relevant area and the sonographer will use the transducer to obtain different views and record a series of images.

Depending on the type of examination you are referred for, additional preparation may be required. Our booking consultants will advise you if any preparation is required when scheduling your appointment.
In some cases, you will be asked to fast, and for some scans you will be required to have a full or partially full bladder.

Depending on the type of ultrasound examination, your appointment time may vary from 15 minutes to 1 hour.
